The Tapermoon approach and character plays off the fascinating and ancient tradition of origami, turning a simple sheet of paper into an animated three-dimensional shape by virtue of artful patterning and folding. The series’ modular concept allows for the combination of multiple shades in playful different arrangements, integrating seamlessly into a variety of spaces and decors while suiting many illumination needs.
Every Tapermoon object radiates a soft touch of light that transcends its sculptural boundaries and creates an almost weightless luminous allure. The intensity of the light can be continuously adjusted from a subtle background glow to full brightness—sufficient for illuminating a room, making a comfortable reading situation, or creating a compelling interior accent.
The design concept had its origins in toying with a bus ticket. Spontaneous ripping and folding eventually led to the surprise moment of revealing a new geometric idea. From there, numerous experiments, calculations and prototypes resulted in the final shade design that is now patented and at the core of all Tapermoon lighting objects. The shades are easily replaced and recycled and Tapermoon products are fabricated in select high-end shops across Canada.
